DPSO Based Clustering Algorithm for Location in Wireless Sensor Networks

Abstract—In this paper, a new clustering algorithm for location is presented to improve the location accuracy in the energy constrained wireless sensor networks (WSNs). TDOA (time difference of arrival) location accuracy is affected by the position of the sensor nodes. As WSNs are composed of a huge number of sensor nodes deployed randomly, the optimal nodes for TDOA location are selected by trading off the location accuracy and the networks energy consumption using DPSO (discrete particle swarm optimization). Then a detailed process of the proposed clustering algorithm is given to group the selected node-sets into clusters. Finally, the proposed algorithm is tested under the RSSI (received signal strength indication)/TDOA two rounds cooperative location scheme. Simulation results show that this algorithm improves the location accuracy with low energy consumption.
